Spotlight on Contemporary Style Shoppe

Today on zulily we’re launching a very special kind of event that you can come find every month, the Contemporary Style Shoppe. We’ve talked with one of the buyers, Brittany Schooley, about what the Shoppe is all about and got some insight on her favorite style of the season.

Tell us what Contemporary Style Shoppe is?

The Contemporary Style Shoppe is a one-stop destination, to find high-end, fashion-forward, styles to give your wardrobe that extra “WOW” factor! It will offer amazing discounts on high-quality pieces that will transition seamlessly from season to season.

Why did you decide to launch it?

We wanted to offer our customer a place where she can go to find specialty pieces and contemporary styles as seen on ready-to-wear runways, fashion blogs, and magazines! It’s a place to go to find that special dress, bag, jacket, etc.!

What can the zulily customer expect to find from the Shoppe?

We are offering quality dresses, separates, bags, jewelry and more that she don’t see in your regular retail stores. The styles we’re offering enhance the wardrobe and take it to the next level. Brands include Dolce Vita, Goddis, Frankie B, CXL by Christian Lacroix and more!

What’s one of your favorite styles for this season?

One of my favorite trends right now combines a beautiful printed maxi dress with this edgy moto jacket. It’s super easy to wear, looks great on everyone and combines a bright, feminine piece with an edgy, masculine style, which gives it that trend-setting look. In addition, both garments can be mixed and matched easily into any wardrobe and each piece is still unique on its own.

We’ve been getting lots of requests for “gender neutral” pieces for the expectant mama who has opted to be surprised with baby’s gender. Sometimes it’s as simple as trying a different approach to how you shop. Much like you’d do for yourself, your little one’s wardrobe could include those few neutral pieces as staples in which to style around.  It’s easy to add color, silhouettes, and accessories to a neutral theme. Plus, it’s a pretty fashionable look on it’s own.  A couple of tips for shopping this look:

Be on the look out for brands that offer neutral pieces
Try shopping by colors that don’t target a single gender
Push the envelope.
We’ve found a few pieces along these lines featured in today’s Those Baby Basics and SKEANIE events! Check out our Shop By Color feature as well to see what fun items you might find! Just because you want to wait to find out if your darling will be will be a little dame or dude, doesn’t mean you have to wait to shop for him or her!

the newbie: Is there a stylish diaper bag out there?
by Melissa Walker, who can be found blogging at http://www.melissacwalker.com

I have a confession: I’ve been using a beat-up old tote bag to carry around June’s portable changing pad, diapers, pacifier, etc. But now that she’s getting older, I’ve had to add little snacks to the mix, plus bigger diapers and more toys. I give up: I think I need an official Diaper Bag.

The problem is that I can’t seem to find any that I like. At all. I’ve looked online, in stores, checked out friends’ picks. But still… I haven’t pulled the trigger. I need a bag that my husband won’t refuse to carry (this means neutral colors and no frills), and I also want one that doesn’t scream, “Mom here! Got my diapers with me!” I’m still trying to seem semi-cool, most days.

I live in New York City, so when I carry a bag, I’m carrying it all day long (not leaving it in a car) so it should be big but not crazy unwieldy. And it’d be a bonus if it hooked onto my stroller handle easily.

I would love to hear about great bags you’ve found or any possible solutions to my conundrum. Thanks, as always, for reading and giving me such great advice.
