It’s that time of year again where many of us set our New Year’s resolution to exercise more this year. In fact, it is the most common new year’s resolution to set which may come to no surprise to you. Now, while you most definitely have to stick to a consistent workout plan along with a healthy diet to achieve these goals. For me, it’s all about having the right clothes. I mean, if you feel fierce and look like you’re ready to do the job, then you’re more likely to get the job done. It’s not rocket science, it’s merely looking the part. However, sometimes it’s difficult to decide what’s in style, what’s current for 2021 and what’s the best decision for you. So, ahead I break down the best in 2021 workout wear that will help you crush your fitness goals. Because when you look good, you feel good and did I mention you’re going to feel like a powerhouse in these ‘fits too?

Sports Bra

A sports bra quite possibly is a game changer when it comes to your workout “uniform.” Have you ever had an ill-fitting sports bra and had to grin and bear it through a long run? So, you know what I’m talking about when I say the fit of your sports bra is crucial to the comfort of your workout routine. First, select a sports bra based on the type of exercise you will be partaking in. Whether that’s a high or low impact activity, as that will determine whether you want a tighter or looser fit. If you prefer to be able to customize your fit, choose a sports bra with adjustable straps or racerback style to prevent slipping. If you prefer, back clasps also allow you to customize the fit and provide maximum support. Otherwise, some may opt for the more comfortable, pullover style, for lighter impact workouts such as yoga and walking. There are so many new styles of sports bras on the market right now. So play around by trying new prints like snakeskin, super high-necks and longline crops.

Longline Crop Tops

Now that we have covered how to determine how to find the right fit of your sports bra, the style you choose is equally as important. With so many styles to choose from, it’s hard to choose which style is the right one for you. Enter long-line sports bras and crop tops. Longline workout tops also come in a variety of styles, but I’m loving the high-neck styles these days! These styles still provide the same support, but are so much more versatile than a sports bra as they provide more coverage around the midsection. They vary in length but typically reach to the belly button or top of your high waisted workout pants. Thus, it’s quickly becoming popular to match with longline crops with your leggings.

Leggings have been a workout wear staple for a while now. However, they are not just your basic black cotton/spandex blend leggings anymore. Their fabric qualities have improved, styles have advanced and they have even become a fashion staple. As stated above, start the new year with a matching longline crop and high-waisted leggings set. Feel free to play with color and texture here. Legging details like super high waists, cutouts, phone pockets, and mesh vents can also add a layer of functionality. Or conversely, choose a legging that feels as soft as butter. And don’t worry if people assume you just finished a workout when in reality your leggings also double as lounge pants. They are great as lounge pants too.

Joggers are like the refined version of a sweatpant or the cross between a legging and a sweatpant. So, therefore, they make an excellent choice for activewear, workout wear or loungewear. Plus, with details like a chic tapered leg, drawstring waist for cinching and pockets(!) – you won’t feel guilty leaving the house in them either! Joggers come in a variety of soft, casual and performance based fabrics so you’ll have lots of options to choose from. Just make sure you choose the color, fit and fabric that fits into your lifestyle…just like everything else! A jogger is essential to any workout or activewear collection which is also perfect if you have a matching top or hoodie to to go with.

To complete your jogger set grab a hoodie to match. The trending style at the moment is a crop style with high waisted joggers, leggings, sweatpants, etc. Hoodies have also been around for as long as I can remember but this crop style is a really fun look. You can also play with proportions as details like balloon-sleeves and oversized hoodies are also really in-style right now. Front tuck, leave out or get a hoodie that goes down to your knees (not kidding). Hoodies are a great accompaniment to any activewear lifestyle. Whether you choose to workout in one or wear one after a workout, they always serve their purpose, they make you look fly from head to toe.

Athletic Shoes

Speaking of the toes, we can’t forget the feet! The type of shoes you wear for a workout or any type of physical activity are vital to not only your performance and comfort but also to prevent pain and injury. So, do your research according to the type of activity you’re engaging in first before selecting the right pair of athletic shoes for you. I’m never the type to sacrifice style for fashion completely, solely for the purpose of function, (because I’m a believer that you can always have both). So try to choose a sneaker that is a cross between fashion and function, if you can. Trending styles/colors right now are retro-inspired throwbacks, comfort sneakers, bright neon colors, pastels, and colorblock styles to name a few. Hopefully, you won’t have trouble finding the right athletic shoe for you!

Let’s stick to those 2021 fitness #goals, ladies! Here’s to a healthy and happy new year!
