Winter is coming! And you know what that means….you better be prepared to bundle up! I want to know, what will be in your outerwear rotation this upcoming winter season? Below are a lineup of a few of my favorite coats and jackets in the top trending categories of outerwear in 2020.

Puffer Jackets

Puffer coats are premium in outerwear. These jackets are quilted, pillowy, and super warm. So, basically, do you want to wear a sleeping bag around, but still look fashionable? Wear a puffer coat. Want to glam it up a bit? Add a fur hood or collar. Since puffer coats tend to be half of your look, style them with leggings, a basic long sleeve turtleneck and tall fur lined boots. Canada Weather Gear has a plethora of puffers right now and you can find them along with other gear in the Cold Weather Shop. Handle the elements like a pro this winter in a high quality puffer coat. And you can puff your feathers knowing that you have one of the top trending coats in outerwear of 2020.

Teddy Coats

The epitome of cozy…I wonder how they got the name for this one? It couldn’t be because you feel like you’re being hugged by a giant teddy bear every time you wear it. LOL. At any rate, these coats are so soft and plush that you will never want to take it off. They come in long or short versions depending on how you want to style it. Short for a more sporty look with sneakers and long for a more chic look with boots. Fuzzy as a bear, just make sure that you prepare for a jacket to get a lot of wear this time of year.

Coatigans

The coatigan is a blend between a coat and a cardigan which makes this an ideal option if you are indecisive about which layer to choose. It is also great if you tend to be on the warmer side. If you just need something light to throw on that will keep you warm but not too warm, this is the layer for you. Coatigans also look chic as their silhouettes are long and unstructured. Not too bulky, but will keep you cozy in cooler weather. You may get caught again, wearing your coatigan, yet again this winter season.

Quilted Jackets

We have seen quilted jackets this season come in the form of oversized, dolman, cotton zip ups with an elastic waistband. Bomber styles too. This season’s laid back jacket has a certain boho vibe tied to it especially when worn with flares and a cool graphic tee. On the other hand, the more classic and widely known quilted jacket is a lightweight water resistant option. It has the look of a puffer without the extra volume. The stitching is designed in a quilted pattern without any goose down or added material inside which gives it a sleeker look. Pair your quilted jackets with your elevated basics like a nice white t-shirt, jeans and ankle boots. You will never get jilted when you stick with your quilted jackets.

Wool Coats

Wool coats are such a classic. They are timeless and will never go out of style. When I think of some of my favorites, I gravitate towards a long camel version because it reminds me of when I was young. But they come in so many other styles too such as a pea coat, toggle coat, and car coat. The beauty of these coats is that you can wear them with about anything. You can throw it on over a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers for a more laid back look. Or, for a more polished look, they look great over dress pants, a blouse and tailored blazer. The question is: “wool” you wear this coat in winter 2020?

Faux Fur Coats

Faux fur is such a fun trend that adds life to any winter outfit. In reality, it makes the outfit. It doesn’t really matter what you are wearing under it. However, I would suggest something simple, like an all black ensemble. A long sleeve tunic and jeans would suffice. Many of the faux fur winter coats come in fun patterns like animal prints and textures like shaggy faux furs. This style is meant to have fun with and experiment a little, so don’t be shy! It’s fashion. When you walk outside you will have everyone wondering, is she fur-real? In the best way possible.

The moral of the story here is: we all deserve to be fashionable and cozy at the same time. Which means braving the elements every now and again. At least we will be ready for whatever mother nature throws our way with resilience. Plus, getting outside for fresh air is good for the soul and is vital to our health. So, we might as well look good doing it in all the latest trends and functional outerwear styles of the 2020 season.
