Green smoothies are one of my favorite ways to start my day with extra veggies and fruits to provide a healthy kick of nutrients and boost of energy. Add these 10 green smoothie recipes to your routine for a tasty way to get your greens. 

Green smoothies are one of the simplest ways to pack your day with extra veggies and fruits. The key to making a delicious, nutritious green smoothie is getting the right ratio of green vegetables, fruit and liquids and having a powerful blender that can seamlessly blend all of your ingredients together. In fact, green smoothies are one of my favorite ways to sneak in some extra veggies into my kiddos repertoire too.

Green smoothies have so many great benefits for our health. Fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrients (like vitamin C and vitamin A) and antioxidants that are wonderful for boosting our immune system. Unlike cold-pressed juices, smoothies have a high fiber content which can be incredibly helpful for digestion and energy. Because of the fiber content, smoothies can help to keep you full and energized all day long without that crashing feeling you can have from more high sugar or caffeinated options. Finally, green fruits and vegetables are loaded with chlorophyll (the substance that gives them their green color), which has detoxifying properties and can aid in skin restoration for a glowing complexion.

Green Smoothie-Making Tips

Balanced ratio

The right ratio of green vegetables to fruits is a must for a yummy balance of sweetness from fruit and gaining all of the nutritional benefits from your greens. A good rule of thumb is: 1 cup of greens, 1 cup of liquid and 1 cup of fruit for a balanced and sweet green smoothie.

Healthy liquids

Use healthy liquids as the base of your smoothies. A few great options: nut milks, oat milk, water or coconut milk

Add healthy fats

Healthy fats, like those from nuts, seeds, avocado or even coconut oil, help your body absorb more nutrients.

Boost it

Add a scoop of protein powder, spices (cinnamon, ginger, etc.) or superfoods (like collagen, ashwagandha, maca powder, hemp hearts, etc) for an additional powerhouse boost.

Blend greens and liquids first

When blending, add your greens and liquid first and blend to avoid chunks of greens. Add fruit last and blend a second time.

Freeze fruit

Skip the ice and freeze your fruit instead to avoid watering down your smoothie.

Prep ahead

Prep ahead of time by adding all cut fruits and vegetables into a reusable bag and freezing. When ready to make, add to the blender with your liquid of choice.

Get creative with greens

When making green smoothies, get creative with your green mix-ins! There are so many more leafy greens to add to your smoothies like:

Directions: To make each smoothie, add greens and liquid to the blender and blend until chunks are gone. Add fruit/nuts/seeds/superfoods/etc. and blend until smooth. Add to your favorite cup and enjoy!

1. Happy & Healthy Spinach Smoothie

1 cup fresh spinach
½ cup frozen pineapple
½ cup frozen mango
½ of a banana
1 cup liquid (milk or water)

2. Pina Colada Green Smoothie

1 cup fresh spinach
½ cup coconut milk
½ cup water
1 ½ cup frozen pineapple chunks

3. Apple Banana Green Smoothie

1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup milk
1 banana (frozen)
1 apple (sliced)
¼ avocado

4. Tropical Green Smoothie

1 cup kale
½ cup water
½ cup orange juice
½ cup frozen pineapple
½ cup frozen mango
1 tsp. chia seeds

5. Metabolism Booster Green Smoothie

1 cup raw spinach
1 cup almond milk
1 orange, peeled
⅓ cup frozen strawberries

6. Fat Burner Green Smoothie

1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup milk
1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
½ tsp. ginger
1 tbsp. chia seeds

7. Berry Green Smoothie

1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup water or milk
½ cup strawberries
¼ cup blueberries
2 cup Greek yogurt

8. Apple Pie Green Smoothie

1 cup spinach
1 cup milk or water
1 green apple, sliced
¼ cup blueberries
¼ tsp. cinnamon
⅛ tsp. nutmeg
½ tsp. vanilla extra
1 tbsp. chia seeds

9. Kale Yeah! Green Smoothie

1 cup fresh kale
1 cup vanilla almond milk
½ cup frozen berry mix
½ frozen blueberries
1 tbsp. honey

10. Detox Celery Green Smoothie

½ cup celery stalks (chopped)
½ cup packed fresh spinach
½ green apple
1 frozen banana
¼ tsp grated ginger
½ cup almond milk
½-1 tbsp. lemon juice
Handful ice

Note: Blend the celery incredibly well as it takes longer to blend than other greens.
