The Hottest Shorts That Will Keep You Cool All Summer Long

Well, are you ready to get some sun on those legs and hit the ground running? I mean it’s been a while and I know I can’t wait to start digging the shorts out of the bottom of my drawers! This sentiment may not be shared by all, but shorts season is one of my favorite seasons of all. I have a few all-time favorite pairs and they keep me feeling cool all summer long. So as the temps begin to warm up, let’s cover the hottest shorts of the season, that will keep you cool all summer long. The long and the “shorts” of it.

Denim Cutoff Shorts

Jean cutoff shorts are a staple piece in the summer rotation. If you had to ask me the best denim shorts it would without a doubt go to Levi’s. I bought my first pair of Levi’s cutoffs from a vintage shop In Boise, Idaho back in high school (which I have still managed to hold onto). I have worn them to shreds but still, find it hard to part with them. They are durable and are my favorite pair of summer shorts. Levi’s are great for their high-waisted silhouettes, distressed details, and overall timeless nature. They look great with any and everything too from a classic white T-shirt to a dressier button-down blouse. Finding the right fit is important too as anything too short or tight and you may have a Daisy Duke situation going on. Make sure you get the right size so they are roomy enough to feel comfortable and breezy all summer long.

Casual Sweat Shorts

The dolphin styles have that retro look to them and that elongates the leg I love right now. These athletic styles are so cute for running errands or athleisure styles. Or, they are great for working out. I love mine for working from home as they keep me cool and comfortable. They are also great as they keep me ready for a long walk at any time of day. So, whether you’re dressing your shorts up for your virtual meeting or pairing it with a favorite casual tee, casual sweat shorts are super cute. Especially, if you’re not quite ready to give up your sweatpants quite yet, but summer is calling and it’s time to switch to shorts. Casual sweat shorts are the right choice.

Bermuda Shorts

Bermuda shorts are super cute in tight black denim or a baggy 90s khaki vibe. The Bermuda shorts, or trouser shorts, are taking the shorts to new longer lengths that are now a major street style look, not just a preppy look. Give a pleated pair a high fashion look by pairing it with a plain white tee matching blazer, mules, and gold jewelry. Or wear your raw hem black Bermuda shorts with a black ribbed tank for a monochromatic look with wrap sandals. Faux leather Bermuda shorts are another way to wear this fun trend without looking super basic. Add a blouse or classic top and heels and you have got a look!

Drawstring Linen Shorts

I love linen pants like I love linen shorts in the summer. It’s another classic style that also looks so effortless and beachy in the summer. Oftentimes you can find linen-viscose blends or shorts made with Tencel which is another super soft/silky fabric that is lightweight and breathable. These are your go-to shorts for hitting the beach or for throwing on over your bathing suit as your beach cover-up after a full day in the sun or water. If you’re heading somewhere after just throw on a fun graphic tee to pair with your laid-back linen shorts. Also super cute in khaki or olive green with a simple white top, denim jacket, and white tennis shoes or flip flops.

Paperbag Shorts

Paperbag waist shorts sit higher on the waist that gives it that cinched silhouette. Many of them have a bow-tie, belted or ruched waist. They are very cute and feminine as they create the hourglass figure and they typically are worn with a tighter fitting top. Bodysuits and high-neck tank tops are great options for flouncy paperbag shorts for a lightweight summer look with sandals. This is one of my personal favorite summer styles as it’s easy to throw on and keeps you cool all summer long. Also, great to layer a cardigan with if it tends to get cooler in the evenings. Or you can dress up a built-in belted pair with a chic blouse and espadrille sandals.

Some key factors to keep in mind when shopping for shorts:

  • Fit/Length: Choose styles and fits that accentuate your shape and body type. Also, opt for lengths, waists, and fits in accordance with your body type.
  • Fabric: Shorts come in a variety of lightweight materials for summer such as cotton, Tencel, linen, polyester, and denim. Choose a fabric that gives you the right amount of breathability that you feel your best in.
  • Occasion: Know the occasion for where you are going to wear each pair of shorts you are buying. Are these for exercising, everyday wear (working from home), the beach, formal attire? It’s important to choose a pair that fits the occasion that you’ll be wearing them to.

With so many fun styles and brands to choose from, which shorts styles are you excited to wear this summer?
