A Savvy Shopping Guide for Winter Boots for Kids

A Savvy Shopping Guide for Winter Boots for Kids

With cold weather upon us, it’s time to make sure your kids are geared up with the appropriate winter boots. We want boots for boys and sturdy kicks for girls that allow kids to comfortably move and play outside while keeping their feet warm, cozy and dry. Your child’s needs will differ based on where you live, but here are some suggestions while shopping for winter boots for kids when Mother Nature turns down the temperature.

Rain boots

Naturally rain boots are waterproof, but they tend to be thinner than snow boots, so they’re not quite as warm. The good news is the thinness allows you to increase or decrease the amount of the boots’ insulation and warmth based on the type of socks you wear underneath the boots. In addition to this winter versatility, rain boots can be worn all year, so they are a fine all-around style for any kid to have in their wardrobe.

Sprox White Snow Boots

If snow and ice are common where you live, a pair of well-fitting, warm and waterproof snow boots are essential for your child. There are a few things you should consider when shopping for snow boots. First, look for the “waterproof” label instead of the phrase “water resistant.” This is particularly important if your child wears the boots to genuinely play and walk right in the snow, slush and water. You should also make sure the boot has a non-slip sole, look for breathability but also insulation, and make sure the top of the boot goes up to at least mid-calf so that snow is kept out.

Black boots for kids

Booties are a cute choice for little girls if you don’t need a more functional boot but are just looking for something to pair with dresses, leggings and jeans. Search for booties with little to no heel, and a zipper to make the booties easier to get on and off. Often booties come with fun details, like fringe, bows or touches to make them look extra trendy and special, perfect for a “fashion plate” little girl.

Lace up boots for kids

lACE-UP BOOTS

Lace-up boots can be either a hiking boot or an ankle boot, but the lace-up feature makes these boots versatile in their fit and functionality. The laces allow for as tight or as loose a fit as you want. If you’re looking for the lace-up style of boot, keep an eye out for a version that works well in your particular climate. For example, if you live in a place with moderate winters, you might opt for a boot with a more thinly insulated lining. Remember, you can always make the boots warmer by wearing thicker socks.

Red and brown duck boots

DUCK BOOTS

When you’re shopping for boots for men, women’s boots, boy’s boots or girl’s boots, there are a few styles that are a solid choice for everyone. Duck boots are one such style, plus their durability makes them great to invest in, because you can pass the boots down to your child’s younger siblings or to the children of your family or friends. When shopping for these kid’s winter boots, look for the signature waterproof base coupled with a leather or faux leather upper portion. Duck boots come in zipper, lace-up and Velcro styles.

SHEEPSKIN FLEECE BOOTS

If you want the ultimate in cozy and warm winter boots, sheepskin fleece boots (in that classic Koolabura by Ugg® style) are the way to go. Keep in mind that these are not the most functional boots, but they will be comfortable for your child to wear for long periods of time, and easy for them to put on and take off without your help. Sheepskin fleece boots also look adorable paired with any number of winter outfits, and are great for lounging around or staying occupied indoors, too.
