The rise of pandemic play: Top toys for empathy
With many families staying home more often due to COVID-19, encouraging play as a family – and as a way to build empathy in the absence of in-person school and playdates – is essential for kids. In fact, 55% of moms feel that their kids are struggling to build social skills due to the pandemic.
For others, pandemic play is all about making the most of family time – and yes, fitting in games to play on Thanksgiving totally counts! Eighty-six percent of moms say they are looking for games and activities they can do together as a family. Check out great toys from The LEGO Group, Crayola, Schylling, Outset Media and Penguin Random House.

A challenge for families: remaining active in the pandemic
With COVID-19 making many outdoor play spaces and public pools off limits, many are bringing the fun into their own backyard with some top toys that encourage jumping and running. The American Academy of Pediatrics and CDC recommend that “preschool-age children engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.” With that in mind, parents should consider games that promote physical wellbeing in their young ones: in fact, 63% of moms feel like with the onset of winter, their kids won’t be able to move around as much. Though getting active is often something for New Year’s resolutions, why not start those New Year good luck traditions early by incorporating active play now?

A must-have for holiday? Imaginative play
For many children today, play has become more about structure and screen – which could have a significant impact on children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth. Let’s give them back the license to truly play, create and imagine; after all, 55% of moms are looking for toys that encourage imaginative, creative play! So next time you’re searching for what to do when you are bored with your kids… turn to some free-form play. Top toys for the imagination include Picasso Tiles, The LEGO Group, Melissa & Doug, Penguin Random House and Small World Toys.
